Little known secrets of fiancé visa and green card interviews from an attorney with 20 years of experience

The New York Times recently ran an article by Richard Stevenson titled: Economic Nudge for an Immigration Overhaul.

The author states that ” several underlying factors contributing to illegal immigration have changed since Congress last considered a bill on the issue in 2007″.  These changes will help make comprehensive immigration reform more likely.

It appears that economic opportunities in Mexico are giving incentives to Mexican workers to stay in Mexico. “The Mexican economy, while still riddled with inefficiency and inequality, is nonetheless humming along, providing many more job opportunities for Mexican workers.”  The article also cites a shrinking birthrate in Mexico (the source of 6 out of 10 illegal immigrants in the United States).

The article states : “…for now  the population of illegal immigrants in the United States shows little sign of growth.  It fell to 11.1 million in 2011, the most recent year for which figures are available, from a peak of 12 million in 2007, the Pew Hispanic Center said in a report on Tuesday.  By one new estimate, the number of people who manages to cross the Mecican border illegally into the United States fell to 85,000 in 2011, down from 600,000 five years earlier.”

“With the scale of the problem stabilizing for the moment, or even shrinking, some experts say, there is more room for political compromise than the last time around.” (emphasis mine).

“Even though the economic and demographic changes have remained largely in the backgound of the debate, analysts say they could offer more reassurance to conservatives in particular that giving legal status to those immigrants would not simply produce another wave of them”.  Thus, again it is more likely that there will be comprehensive immigration reform.

It appears, from many different sources, that there will be reforms in immigration law over the next several months (there has already been some reforms which may apply to you). These laws will affect anyone who lives in the U.S. illegally or has loved ones who live in the U.S. illegally. If this is your situation then you should contact an experienced immigration attorney now to help you go over your options.

This article is intended to provide you with information about current immigration affairs. You should speak to a competent attorney about your particular case. Please do not listen to friends or co-workers concerning your immigration issues. Rather, please consult with a competent immigration attorney.

    TEMPORARY VISA

Our experience was amazing. The process was smooth. Larry and Jason helped us every step of the way to get my husband’s temporary visa. When I started getting anxiety about how long it takes, what’s the next step or what if’s, I would call either of them and they had no problems giving me answers. Jason went with us to our meeting with immigration, and made us laugh the whole time. He really helped keep me calm as I suffer from anxiety very badly. A year later, I can still call Larry and ask questions about the next step. I’m very thankful I found these guys!!! Highly recommend them!

Top 5 Reasons To Become a U.S. Citizen

Top 5 Reasons To Become a U.S. Citizen

Free Reports to read BEFORE you decide to file an Immigration case or to hire an Immigration Attorney. These reports will save you time and money. Read These Reports to Learn: How you can always represent yourself in an Immigration Case That not all Immigration Attorneys are the same The questions you should always ask your Immigration Attorney before you hire him How Immigration cases can be needlessly delayed or denied and what you can do to avoid that fate. How not to rely on advice given by friends, family, and surprisingly Immigration information officers How every document you file with USCIS can affect you and your family for years. Little known secrets of fiancé visa and green card interviews from an attorney with 20 years of experience

Green card holders (permanent residents) can get naturalized U.S. citizenship, and there are many reasons to do so.  Here are the top 5 reasons to become a U.S. Citizen

If you are a permanent resident of the United States, you can file for U.S. citizenship through USCIS. The cost is relatively low and the benefits are great, as you can see below.  These are just the top 5 reasons to become a naturalized U.S. Citizen.  There are other very good reasons that are not listed below.

1. Your  risk of removal (deportation) is reduced. Green Card holders can be deported for committing certain crimes.  This is not true if you are a U.S. Citizen.A U.S. citizen who commits a crime cannot be deported.  This is a big reason to become a U.S. citizen

However, you need to be aware that U.S. citizenship may be taken away from you , in the future, if USCIS determines that you lied to obtain either lawful permanent residence (“green card”) or to obtain your U.S. citizenship.  This is an intricate area of the law and if you think you may have lied to USCIS then you should consult with an immigration attorney as soon as possible.

(As a side note: If you have committed crimes in the past you should have an immigration attorney review your situation prior to filing for U.S. Citizenship.  Otherwise, you could face very serious consequences.)

2. You will enjoy easier re-entry into the United States. If you become a United States Citizen then you will no longer have to deal with the longer lines at the airports and other ports of entry.  These lines are reserved for green card holders.

In addition, as a U.S. citizen you can have easier entry into other countries. This is because, in many instances, you can visit many foreign countries without a visa if you are a United States citizen.

3. You will Have the ability to take very long trips outside the United States.  As a United States Citizen you can take long trips outside of the United States and never have to worry about when you need to return to the United States.  In other words you do not have to worry that USCIS will deem that you have abandoned your green card. This is a very serious issue and one which needs to be looked at if you are a permanent resident and plan on spending a fair amount of time outside of the United States.

4  You will have the ability to petition more family members. United States citizens can petition more types of loved ones into the United States than green card holders. Only U.S. citizens may petition parents, siblings, and married children. In addition, in the cases where both U.S. citizens and green card holders may do a petition (such as for spouses), the wait time is generally significantly shorter for U.S. citizens.  If you plan on petitioning family members in the future, it almost always makes more sense to apply for your U.S. Citizenship prior to filing these petitions.  If you have already filed a petition for a loved one you can still file for your naturalization.  Once naturalized you can have a qualified immigration attorney help you notify USCIS so that the wait time on your petition will be shortened.

5. You will have the ability to obtain federal grants, federal jobs and other government benefits.  Let’s face it, we are dealing with difficult economic times.  Any extra opportunity you have for a job should be explored.  Certain jobs in our economy require U.S. citizenship. These include many local, state, and federal government jobs.  In addition, many federal grants and scholarships are available only to U.S. citizens.

Of course, there are many other reasons to consider U.S. citizenship.  If you are interested in becoming a U.S. citizen then please do not hesitate to contact our office for a free and confidential evaluation of your case.  Laws can and do change.  Please always review your case with an experienced immigration attorney prior to filing any paperwork with USCIS.
