This article will go over what the fiance visa wait time is in 2024. The fiance visa process is made up of 3 parts: the USCIS portion; the National Visa Center portion and the embassy/consulate portion.

During the pandemic K-1 fiance visa cases were taking 18 months or longer to go through the entire process. Not too long ago USCIS was estimating 15 months as an average wait time just to get through the USCIS portion of the case. Admittedly, this is the longest portion of the case. However this is a very long time. The total time to get through a fiance visa case, during the pandemic, was typically 18 months–sometimes longer.

Several years ago the total length of time for the K-1 fiance visa cases (for all 3 stages) was just 5 1/2 to 9 months. This time period was lengthened under the Trump administration and then again due to the pandemic. In fact, during the pandemic some embassies were either not holding interviews at all or were holding them at a reduced rate leading to backlogs. During this time some attorneys were filing mandamus suits in order to prompt the government to finalize these cases.

Happily the current wait time has reduced significantly overall now that the pandemic seems to be under control. It appears that the USCIS wait time is about 9 months and the rest of the case (NVC and embassy/consulate stage) is about 4 months. The total time in your case will vary by country and the given embassy’s case load.

The good news is that the overall timeline is trending downward. Hopefully, we will return to the days when a total time of 5 1/2 months for K-1 fiance visa cases is not unusual.
