Julia Preston has written an excellent article in the New York Times titled: Mexican Immigration to U.S. Slowed Significantly Report Says.

Citing a report from the Pew Hispanic Center, the article states that “the number of Mexicans leaving (the United States) rose sharply in the five years after 2005, while the new flow of migrants coming from Mexico into the United States fell steeply”.

Factors which seem to have caused the reduction of illegal immigrants into the United States include, but are not limited to: the high unemployment in the United States, heightened border enforcement and a reduction in the birth rates in Mexico.

It will be interesting to see how this slowdown in immigration from Mexico impacts the demographics and the economy of both the United States and Mexico.

If you are here illegally you may, in limited circumstances, have the opportunity to obtain your green card.  If you are in this situation be sure to carefully read our blog post titled: “Hope for Undocumented Aliens Wanting to Obtain Their Green Cards”.   After you read this blog post you should review your situation with an experienced Immigration Attorney BEFORE you take any steps to obtain your green card. My office would be happy to speak to you free of charge.
